INHABITED ABSTRACTIONS

Looking at designers Cristobal Balenciaga and Rei Kawakubo, I explored fashion history and their influence on modern design. Balenciaga’s use of lines and shapes and Kawakubo’s innovation led me to focus on minimalist 90s fashion. Minimalism is more than simplicity—it reflects social change and evolved into deconstructionism. It also challenged gender norms, influencing the "heroin chic" aesthetic. My project blends minimalist silhouettes from the 50s and 90s, incorporating genderless fashion, gloomy 90s aesthetics, and Balenciaga/Kawakubo inspirations. Despite setbacks, I refined my designs, adding details like cotton tape to enhance structure. Though not perfect, I’m proud of my final product.
